Over 150 Years on Main Street
The roots of Keating's Pharmacy stretch back to 1873, when Lumsden and Wilson opened a drug business on Seaforth's Main Street. In 1923, James Edward Keating — a First World War veteran from Madoc, Ontario — arrived in Seaforth and transformed the shop into the beloved Rexall Drug Store. A charter member of the Lions Club, past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, and Seaforth's Mayor in 1949 and 1950, J.E. Keating gave back as much to the town as to his patients.
After his passing in 1967, his daughter Merle Hoover carried the legacy forward. A luncheonette counter was added over the years, turning the pharmacy into a gathering place where neighbours stopped in for a prescription and stayed for a coffee. Today, Andrew and Mansi continue that same small-town tradition.
